This is called 'oxen traction' replacing the hoe. Oxen traction will help the farmer to seed more thus produce more food than they would need for themselves as a family. This over-production will help them to sell food and make a profit. This is called income-generation.

This is the growth of Amaranth. Amaranth is used more and more for its high nutritive value. The kernels can be mixed with various other food products. HIV/AIDS patients receive so much more energy by eating amatanth as it boost their immune system.

This is inside a church where women within the age group of 40-55 years, old come together several times a week for Adult Literacy Class. These women were already able to read, write and do simple arithmatic. Some were quite ecstatic being able to read the Bible for the first time in their lives! One side result of taking the Adult Literacy Class is that the women formed a support group, working together and taking initiatives by, among other things, cooperatively planting various kinds of seed, thus growing different food sorts. Many husbands don't like that their wives take this class, as the women end up understanding and being able to more than the men understand and do. That's what happens when you become more knowledgeable and thus more powerful and independed.

This is one of the roots of the usual 3 roots of an amaranth plant. These roots are then pulvarized into kernels, etc. to be mixed with other foods.
